PersunMall.com are sponsoring a giveaway on LetzMakeup.com for the first half of July where ye will be in with a good chance (1 in 60) to win an item of clothing!
If I had to choose between foundation & concealer, the concealer would win hands down.... BUT it has to be a really flippin' good concealer!
Obviously foundation can be a girls (& guys) best friend and is brilliant at evening out skin-tone & perking up the complexion, but it doesn't really cut it when it comes to covering that festering, potentially boil-like blemish that decides to rear its' ugly head at the worst possible time. The problem I see too often with foundation is when people DO attempt to use it as concealer which leads to heavy, cakey, mask-like coverage that looks worse than the few blemishes showing through did in the first place!
A good concealer will cover that nasty no bother with one layer but can also double up as a foundation when buffed in lightly just where needed or, when mixed in with some face primer, to create your own more fluid foundation creation when you need to even out the whole face.
After the unfortunate weather turnaround we had last week in the wake of a bit of summery weather, ONE single day this week way nice and sunny amid the rainy/windy gloom... and I was determined to take advantage of that by filming an outfit of the day.
So I did :)
I was a bit bold and bought a few things in Miss Selfridge (I am supposed to be on a buying ban until after my holliers next month) BUT in my defense, they have a great sale on there at the minute.
The beautiful mint maxi skirt was down from €60 to only €12! No way could I miss out on that, the top is also from Miss Selfridge and was €14.50 ish. The sheer/see-through back was just too pretty to wear a bra with and of course I did suffer a bit o' nip as a result, but oh well, these things happen :P
I added my leather jacket from Swamp & hat from Dunnes to add a bit of an edge, though it was too warm to keep the jacket on for very long.
Here's the video for a better look at the entire outfit. My sister came to help me film but I was goofing too much & talking too much that I had very little good footage to use! Ha ha. I'll know better for next time.
Time for another fashion related post and this time I'm sharing one of my new favourite hobbies..... Wishlisting!
Like I mentioned before, I'm trying to be a bit picky about the clothing companies I work with, mainly because I don't have the time to create as many fashion videos/posts as I'd like, along with the beauty ones (and my job of course!).
PersunMall.com contacted me recently about joining their blogger programme and it took me all of 5 minutes to decide to join, clicking on their shoe section first-thing is to blame for this!!!.
Recently I've been inspired by all the beautiful Orange makeup products that are available at the minute, especially MAC's new 'All about Orange' Collection so I created this look as a wearable look for those of you who love orange but are maybe a little shy about wearing it at full force!
Many of ye who are avid blog readers will probably already know that Google announced they will be retiring Goole Reader as of July 1st of this year.
This is going to be a bit of a blow to both blog readers & blog creators alike as for many of ye, your link to, and way-of-knowing-about new blog posts is going to be severed.
This is also a blow to creators who will no doubt lose readership once this comes into effect.
One question I have encountered a lot since this announcement is whether 'Google friends Connect' will also retire along with Google Reader..... as far as I know this has not been addressed by Google (maybe it has & I just missed out on it??) but it's webpage which used to exist at http://www.google.com/friendsconnect
A few months ago I placed my very first Illamasqua online order after finally receiving my professional discount (Finally because I had been procrastinating on applying for it!) and at the time they were offering a further 10% on top of any already existing discount so how could I not have!
Among a few other things, including the much hyped Skin Base Foundation, I picked up 3 of their lippies which again at the time were on a 3 for 2 deal! It was my lucky day!! Ha ha.
Ye might have noticed that I've taken a wee break from writing any makeup or beauty posts over the past whileen. I seem to have a pattern of needing a break from it every now & again seen as I do this (makeup etc) as my profession AND hobby. And that explains my recent love-affair with fashion posts lately too!
I was inspired to shoot a summery outfit of the day yesterday thanks to the glorious weather we are having in Galway at the moment and to rock my new uber fancy Ralph Lauren shades. So I packed up my camera & tri-pod & headed out to my family home in the countryside to take advantage of my fathers gorgeous gardening skills!
I didn't actually start wearing high heels until my mid twenties onwards. In my teens and early 20s I was still far too hippy/grunge to wear them and thought they were way too 'proper' ha ha! Oh how we change!!
The Dress is from Penneys/Primark 'Atmosphere' range.
(It's from a couple of years ago but they often have similar in stock)
It's definitely one of my staple wardrobe pieces! I'd say I wear it at least once a week, ha ha. Everyone has something like that in their wardrobe that they live in.
I've never quite gotten over my Hello Kitty obsession, I suspect I'll be one of those 70 yr old non-grannies with 20 cats and hopefully at least 2 more Hello Kitty tattoos, adding to my already existing Hello Kitty tattoo and normal cat on my (tattoo) half-sleeve.
I'm also a tad enamored by cute & kitch knickers! Well underwear in general, I was the proud owner of 2 Hello Kitty bras/crop tops until recently when I had to retire them due to old age :( (That's the age of the garments, not me, ha ha!!)
I picked up these super cute H.K knicker briefs from Penneys last week for €3.00 a piece.....
Since I've started posting fashion videos on my LetzMakeup channel, various online clothing companies have been contacting me about their products and joining their blogging programmes (More so than before). I always politely declined any of these offers before I was filming styling & fashion videos, but now that I am & it's relavent to my channel, I am happily considering a few of the offers. I jumped at the chance to join the Romwe.com blogger programme as I've spent the past year drooling over the bits I've seen many of my youtube subscriptions and favourite fashion blogs showing off, from the China-based online brand. And since my first order, which was partly subsidised, I've not been disappointed. Now because of my happy experience with Romwe I'm definitely interested in a few of the other companies who have approached me.
(And let me say here for the record, as with my makeup work, I will always be honest about my experiences with companies and be transparent about collaborating)
Many of ye have been asking to see more of my wardrobe since I began posting fashion videos so I thought a good start to that would be to share some recent purchases of mine. Most of the bits should still available to buy as they were bought within the past month or so and it'll give ye an idea as to where my personal style is at the minute!
As I mentioned in my last post, here is the first of my recent fashion posts from ShivInTheBox blog that I am moving over here to live permanently from now on!
Apologies for the lack of posts etc lately, sometimes I find it near impossible to fit them in when work and life gets in the way. Good news though is that I will be working a day less in my retail job from July onwards so that's going to be a great thing for LetzMakeup!
Another decision I came to is to amalgamate my ShivInTheBox styling posts with my LetzMakeup blog (ie. move them over to here!!). I have considered feedback from viewers & blog followers and chatted to a few other bloggers and decided to just keep all makeup AND fashion related content on the one blogger platform since they are on the one Youtube Channel. This will of course be a good thing for any companies I work with also as it guaranties them greater readership for blog posts related to them, which in turn will benefit the blog & you guys with the possibility of more collaborations in the future. (basically a broader range of products/items to share with ye via blog posts, ootd's etc).
